68th Colombo Hindu College Scout Group Holiday Camp was held on 15th and 16th September 2024 at LOADI Grove – Organic Agriculture / Agroecology Research and Training Center. There the scouts demonstrated group activities on organic agriculture and made an eco-friendly model of a compost bin.
Two composting units and a sewage liquid unit were constructed for crop residue management and kitchen waste management. Planting plants is another work done by them. Especially plants and animals were explored and it could be seen in their presentations that the teenagers gained a good understanding of eco-friendly farming, organic farming and simulated forestry as well as environmental conservation in the final evaluation.
The camp was themed “Farm to Fork, Farm to Future” which explained the values of engaging in traditional agricultural methods.
Representing Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement, Mr. Ajantha Palihavadana (Project Director), Mrs. Nadeera Priyadarshani (Field Project Coordinator) and Mrs. Dhanusha Sanjeevani (Assistant Project Manager) conducted lectures, activities and field activities. Administrative Manager Mr. S.Vishwalingam did the Tamil translation.
