A training programme for 55 participants representing three key sectors of Seth Arana – Caritas was held on 23 September 2026 at the LOADI Grove Training Centre in Mattegoda. The programme was attended by the Director Priest of Seth Arana – Caritas, along with several officers representing the institution.
The main objectives of the programme were to further promote agroecology, organic agriculture, analog food forests, organic home gardening, medicinal plants and sustainable farming practices.
During the programme, the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement (LOAM) shared its experiences with social mobilisers from Caritas. The training also included practical sessions on preparing organic inputs and field visits to food forest sites.
Both organisations implement projects funded by Misereor and aim to work together to promote sustainable agriculture.
The training sessions were facilitated by Thilak Kariyawasam, Chairperson of the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement; Ajantha Palihawadana, Director of Special Projects; Fazly Mohamed, Programme Manager; Dhanusha Jayathissa, Assistant Project Manager; Indika Sampath, Training Officer; and Ashoka Karunaratne, Tradditional Medicine Practitioner.
