The Lanka Organic Agricultural Movement (LOAM), with the support of the Misereor Project, conducted a chick distribution program on 13 August 2026 at the LOADI Grove Training Centre, Mattegoda, to promote organic livestock management as a means of developing sustainable organic home gardens and ecological agriculture, strengthening farmers’ economic resilience, and contributing to the “Whole Time Money” concept.
The programme brought together farmers and prospective livestock farmers from Mattegoda, Kahathuduwa, Veniwelkola, Kottawa, and Liyanagoda.
The key objectives of the programme were to promote organic livestock management, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods, establish a livestock bank, promote the use of organic manure, and provide guidance on producing nutritious food, particularly eggs.
Representing the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement, Special Project Director Ajanta Palihawadana, Assistant Project Manager Dhanusha Jayathissa, Richard Francis, and Chamod Maduwantha participated in the program
