Sustainable Agriculture Training for Caritas SEDEC

A two-day training programme was conducted on 16–17 July 2026 at the LOADI Grove Training Centre, Mattegoda, for 35 officers representing the 11 field offices of Caritas SEDEC. The programme was attended by Rev. Fr. Luke Nelson, Director of Caritas SEDEC, together with several Directors representing the field offices.

The primary objective of the programme was to share the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement’s (LOAM) experience in promoting agroecology, organic agriculture, and analog forestry as sustainable farming approaches with Caritas SEDEC officers. The training also included practical sessions on the preparation of organic agricultural inputs, as well as field visits to analog forestry sites.

Through projects funded by Misereor, both the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement (LOAM) and Caritas SEDEC aim to work collaboratively to further promote sustainable agriculture in Sri Lanka.

The training programme was facilitated by Thilak Kariyawasam, President of the Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement; Ajantha Palihawadana, Special Projects Director; Fazly Mohammed, Programme Manager; Danusha Jayathissa, Assistant Project Manager; Indika Sampath, Training Officer; and Dr. Ashoka Karunarathna, Ayuvedic Medical Practitioner.
